PROFESSIONAL STATEMENT

We all tend to follow patterns of behavior that are based on our early life experiences. Some of these work to our advantage and others can cause us significant difficulty. Whether you’re struggling with depression, difficulty at work, conflict in relationships, anxiety, feelings of inadequacy, issues related to sexuality, anger, or feeling stuck, I will work with you to help you better understand your inner-world, so that you can become a better version of you. I do my best to create a safe, judgment-free environment so that you feel supported throughout this journey. I trained at The Metropolitan Institute for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (MITPP), specializing in psychodynamically-oriented psychotherapy.

ABOUT ME

Jonathan Schnapp, LCSW is a New York State Licensed Psychotherapist who has completed his training at The Metropolitan Institute for Training in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (MITPP). Jonathan specializes in individual psychotherapy for adults of all ages.

His practice is conveniently located at 240 Madison Avenue (between 37th and 38th Street), near Grand Central Station, Penn Station, the Empire State Building, Murray Hill, the Upper East Side, Midtown East, in the heart of New York City, and numerous public transportation options.

I LOVE WHAT I DO

Working with people to help them gain a deeper understanding of themselves is both an incredible challenge and a great privilege. I try to avoid adjectives such as”good” and “bad” because it is a form of judgment and tends to limit the exploration of our inner selves.

Rather, I work with you to better understand your personal experience, so that you can take better advantage of the assets, attributes and passions that drive you.

Testimonials

I’ve been seeing Jonathan for a few months now, and have grown more and more comfortable and appreciative of my time with him. It was my first time seeing a therapist and he was very thorough in making sure our session structure was the right fit for me. He’s helped me organize many thoughts into manageable blocks without judgement, and encourages me to dig deeper in my reflection.

Seeing Jonathan was all around great, and I only have good things to say. Only had one session so far but looking forward to going back. Also, I wish he had been higher up on my search results!–I had tried another therapist a few months back but it didn’t work out. The atmosphere is very comfortable and the room is beautiful. Jonathan is very respectful, attentive, and has already brought up some good points that I hadn’t thought about before. I also appreciated his communication through e-mail beforehand. Would definitely recommend, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

Jonathan has a very open and welcoming energy. Coming to therapy can be a very intimidating experience and I feel as though Jonathan has the ability to make you feel open to discussing your feelings. I would definitely recommend him to my close friends if they were ever looking for a therapist and felt intimidated by the process.

Jonathan was very approachable and easy to talk to. I felt comfortable, which is the most important part for me, from the moment I walked in. He listens attentively and asks great questions. Looking forward to my next session.
